The Challenge
An Irish wholesale food distributor serving 320 hospitality clients had a warehouse management problem disguised as a software problem. They were using a legacy DOS-based inventory system from 2003 that no one under 40 could operate, could not interface with any modern software, and had no support contract. Pick errors were running at 6.2% — meaning 1 in 16 orders had at least one wrong item. Temperature-controlled storage had no digital log, which was a compliance risk for their ISO certification. The company was growing but the system couldn't scale.
Our Solution
We built a warehouse management system with mobile barcode scanning for receiving, put-away, and picking — running on handheld Android devices. The pick workflow introduced forced verification at each step, reducing human error. Temperature logging was automated via IoT sensors with a digital audit trail for compliance. A customer-facing portal allowed clients to place orders, track deliveries, and view invoices without calling the office. The system integrated with their accounting software via API and replaced the legacy DOS system over a single weekend migration.
