The Challenge
An Irish fintech company offering open-banking integrations for SMEs needed a client-facing analytics dashboard. Their existing solution was a basic spreadsheet export that clients received by email each Monday. As churn began climbing — clients cited "lack of visibility" as the top reason for leaving — the product team made a dashboarding experience their top priority. The challenge wasn't just technical: the system needed to aggregate data from seven different bank APIs in real time, handle multi-currency arithmetic correctly, and stay fast enough that advisers could use it during client calls.
Our Solution
We built a server-side rendered Next.js dashboard with live data streaming via Server-Sent Events. Rather than pulling all data on load, we introduced a smart caching layer using Redis that pre-fetches overnight aggregations and updates intraday deltas in real time. Charts were built using a custom D3.js wrapper to keep the bundle lean. We integrated with their existing OAuth2-based bank connector and built a permission model so clients could grant view-only access to their accountants. The entire frontend was built with accessibility in mind — WCAG AA compliant throughout.
