The Challenge
A UK estate agency with 14 offices and 200+ active listings had a WordPress site that had grown into an unmanageable mess: 47 active plugins, a PageSpeed score of 19, and a visual editor that took 40 seconds to load for their content team. SEO performance was deteriorating month over month. Their listings weren't indexed properly by Google because the JavaScript-heavy property search tool wasn't crawlable. Staff were afraid to update anything because the last plugin update had taken the site offline for six hours.
Our Solution
We rebuilt their WordPress installation from scratch using a custom block theme, reducing plugins from 47 to 11 (all audited and maintained). The property listings were migrated to a custom post type with a server-rendered search powered by an Elasticsearch index — fully crawlable by Google. We implemented a staging environment, automated backups to S3, and a plugin update testing workflow that runs on a separate environment before touching production. The content team went from dreading the CMS to using it daily without support requests.
